Rightly or wrongly the OS map clearly designates this as a bridleway. A footpath comes in about 100 meters further along the road and appears to cut across the bridleway and head in the direction of Northend.
I would be keen to see your master map.

Dear Tom
If you referring to the footpath BA2/30, the new fencing does not represent a safety issue for walkers so I will not be looking to get the fence posts moved.
It would take a legal order to upgrade this footpath to a bridleway. If you wanted to make an application to do this the cost would be in the region of £2,500 for the administration fees plus additional costs for advertising the order.

Maybe we've unknowingly been riding up and down a footpath? Its the track at the SE edge that runs along the wall.
If that's the case, and I have been doing this for since 1988 can it be upgraded to a Bridleway. (I guess this could take some time)
So:
In any case, and as many bikes are using it to go up and down, as it is a safety issue can yourself and Mr Tabb look at moving back the fencing posts?

Just to add my comments - for the official record.
We spoke yesterday about the fencing issue at Bannerdown.
I strongly urge you (or those responsible) to look at the position of the fencing running alongside the wall on the Bannerdown bridleway.
It is so close that, as Andy Stewart says, one slight mistake with your position riding down the Bridleway would very easily cause handlebars to clip the fence or post and result in a very nasty accident.

However, the work is now substantially complete and I am not at all happy with the position of the fence and posts inside the stone wall, effectively on the southern edge of the woodland - it now seriously impedes upon the bridleway. The posts and fence have been positioned well inside the wall and have narrowed the bridleway considerably. They need to be moved closer to the wall.
A group of us rode the track last week for the first time and I have also been contacted by others who have done so.
It will not be long before someone clips one of the posts and is injured.
