Hi all,
For those who want to get some miles in their legs and see some of the
fantastic roads that are a little further afield, a new feature is being
added to the calendar.
As outlined at the AGM, the month of May sees the introduction of a series
of long distance rides, being lead from the usual Sunday starting place
(opposite the Guildhall, by the Corridor) and starting at 8:00am.
The plan was to build up the distances, perhaps starting with a 50 to 60mile
ride in March / April, but the icy start to 2010 put a spanner in the works
there!
So we kick off with an 80mile (for those at the AGM yes I did say 75miles,
but having mapped it out 80miles it is J) route to Marlborough, riding some
of the best country roads/lanes Wiltshire has to offer. It will be a
fantastic days riding, arriving back in Bath between 2:00 & 3:00pm (weather
and food stops depending).
Check out the schedule below:
Date

June, 2010
27th June, Sunday
Low Smith - VC Walcot Goes Long.
8:00am start, 90-100 miles to the Cotswold Water Park.
July, 2010
25th July, Sunday
Low Smith - VC Walcot Goes Long.
8:00am start, 90-100 miles to the River Severn.
The rides will be run as club rides i.e. moderate pace and we wait/help out
if someone punctures etc. Details of the other rides will follow.
Long distance rides are challenging, but the routes are not designed to
break you like some of the more demanding Sportives! That said, climbs are
inevitable and you will need to be prepared to ride the distance.
Currently, no long distance ride is planned for August, but if the idea is
popular we can finish off with another one in September.
The regular Sunday club ride will still run on the above dates, starting at
the usual time of 9:30am.
Here's to a busy summers riding for you all.
Many regards,
Jonathan A.
