Hi All,

I found a tick on my leg on Saturday the little *&%£ had been there since
Wednesday night! Dave kindly lent me his tick remover thing to get the
little bleeder off. I've attached Andy's advice from a few years ago for
anyone who has not already read it.

** **

Worthwhile* *then reminding everyone of the current advice:****

** **

   - Lymes disease can become a debilating lifelong illness and is thus to
be avoided if at all possible****
   - A study by the **University** of **Bath** in 2006 found that 5-10% of
the ticks around ****Bath**** carry Lymes disease and are most likely to
be picked up from deer and in long grass.****
   - There *are* immediate symptoms but they only show in less than 50% of
   cases****
   - You lessen your chances of contracting it if you remove the tick
quickly (at least within 48 hours)****
   - You MUST remove it properly though – DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
SQUASH IT OR BURN IT OFF (YES I’M SHOUTING) or use vaseline or anything
else to kill it – it will disgorge it’s stomach contents into you and
possibly leave behind it’s mouth parts greatly increasing your chances
of picking up something nasty. REMOVE IT USING THIN POINTED TWEEZERS OR A
SPECIALIST REMOVER using a twisting motion.****

And on that cheery note. See you later* :-/*****
