Ah, I see - that's pretty incredible! I thought they were digging it up - must be like that all year round :)
Maybe I'll trundle round the route some other time, looks really good. Have fun!

Thanks for that Liz. Charlcombe Lane is closed to vehicles every spring to protect frogs and toads that have to cross the road. A true storey, honest.

As you say, it's just off the route plus was OK when I rode it last week so we should be fine. Good luck with your tri.
Jonathan.

Hi Jonathan,
Well done for sorting this out, looks brilliant! Sadly it clashes with my first tri of the season so I can't make it - I'm genuinely disappointed cos it looks fun.
Just thought I'd drop you a note as I was walking round Charlcombe yesterday, and a long section of road was closed, they seemed to be digging it up/repairing it. I think it was Charlcombe Lane and might not affect this route but thought I'd give a you a heads-up so if anyone's up there they can check it out just before race day.
Best,
Liz

Hi all,
9:30am, Sunday 18 April 2010 sees VC Walcot offer their annual tribute to the spring classics.
First there was the Roubaix Ride (2007). Then came the Ronde Van Walcot (2008) followed by La Fleche Avon (2009).
What's in store for this year?
Well, the professionals will be in the Netherlands, tackling the Amstel Gold Race.

As for us, break out the retro cycling gear and keep the winter tyres rolling (you really don't want to bring your best climbing wheels!) as we tackle the Amstel Golden Coffee Race.

52 km (32 miles), climbing 1009m (3310 feet) and featuring some of the best views you can get across Bath and the surrounding valleys.
Who will dig deep, crossing the waters of the Kennet & Avon Canal, conquering the slopes of Little Solsbury Hill and rising to the heights of Soper's Wood so they can be the first to the coffee shop.
We give you the Amstel Golden Coffee Race.
