BathMTB: What to tell newbies and 'enquiries' ??

All seems pretty reasonable to me, as I'm sure we all remember there have been plenty of times when there have been 2 or 3 flats, broken chains and then all of a sudden it's gone 10.00pm and your still 5 miles from town. You need lights, you need spares.

Kevin.

Subject: BathMTB: What to tell newbies and 'enquiries' ??

Good to see so many out on Weds, but sadly not poor Steve, sat at home on the sofa (hope the pain is subsiding!) and sorry I couldn't hang around and get to the pub to see Aileen and Walter at the end.

Not seen the Ride Report yet ;-) but hear it was a good ride out Englishcombe way with a bit of BMX track thrown in at the end. Apart from an odd encounter with a grinning mad tractor driver and a near head on with some mx riders ;-)

Great feedback from Abi too, always good to welcome 'newbies' thanks especially Dave, Kevin and Justin for 'leading' and for making sure everyone stayed safe.

Kind of on that note - I'm still regularly getting enquiries by email and through Facebook asking about rides, sometimes through the guys in the shops, sometimes just through 'googling' Bath MTB.

Depends upon what I get asked of course but I generally write back and say that they'd be welcome to join us. We also put a note in the description on the new Facebook page along similar lines:

We ride for about 3hrs and cover about 30km (sometimes longer). The terrain is hilly so there are plenty of climbs and descents, some of them technical - so you'll need a 'proper' off-road capable bike with knobbly tyres and be reasonably fit. That said, the group has always welcomed new riders and we're happy to give hints and tips - we all started somewhere!

The pace is fairly quck but defitely 'social' i.e everyone is happy to wait and re-group regularly at the top of climbs.

The only 'rules': No lid (helmet), no ride. Be self-sufficient: bring a pump, tools, fluid and food. It's dark when we get back so you'll need lights. We sometimes stop at a pub near the end so it's a good idea to bring some money too.

Anyway, getting to the point, as it's that time of year and I've been getting more enquiries, I was wondering if that info is enough, is it right and perhaps most importanly might it put some people off?

Let me know what you think and happy to tweak accordingly.

Have a good wk end.
