Well done Ben and Chris, alas there can only be one winner. Chris you'll be
pleased to know we will eat your bag of crisps and think of our motto while
sitting in a pub somewhere.

Take Care

Well there's me thinking only Chris had left us. A total no show last night,
this would not have happened if Chris was here we could always count on him
regardless of the weather. Luckily for me a new guy turned up, John one of
the regular Raven riders had come along on Dave's recommendation. As
tempting as it was to cancel it and just go home I thought of the group
motto 'Numquam deesset Mercurii' (free bag of crisps for the first person to
translate). So after a chat I suggested to John that Box may be a good ride
as it does not get too wet in the rain.....little did I realise.

So with the canal open again for business off we headed, not too wet. We
came off the toe path in the usual place and headed down over the level
crossing to encounter the first puddle (large pond) of the evening. In the
field after the crossing was a huge puddle, no way of going round really so
through the middle, went over my hubs, toes and shoes soaked. The mud was
not actually too bad for the entire ride, but the amount of water running
off fields and in the waterways was awesome many of the smaller rivers
having burst their banks, Box wood was a little to sloppy to bother with,
the climb up to Collerene was a river of water and the final decent was
probably the only really scary bit of the evening offering my dry summer
tyres sod all grip.

I did promise John there would be more of us next week.......will he
return???

Kevin
