Aileen, have a great time in SA, can't believe you'd want to leave these freezing shores!

i should be back riding a mountain bike by May at least, so see you then.

Cheers
Steve

Amazing amount of grip when the mud freezes, so much more than even the driest summers day. The pace did feel quick, it also seemed like a lot of climbing, best of all was the freezing wet stream we walked seemed to go on forever! Last time I say "we'll just follow you Andy".

Good luck in SA Aileen hope all goes well, see you in 3 months.

Was a very nice ride, but jez was I cold when I got home. Due to my completely frozen front mech had no shifting for the last 4 miles or so with that I got back to the car about 9.20…..ok not quite 9.45.

Best of luck Aileen, send some pics of that hot dry MTB world of South Africa, sorry about not going to the pub but it really wasn’t the night for it.

Cheers Tony :-)

(I can’t access Facebook from work unfortunately)

RR 8.2.12:

Aileen, Andy, Ben, Kevin, Justin.

Lovely frozen trails for a second week running, good company, nice (fast?) pace and some beautiful views of lit up cities. What night riding is for :-)

I managed to lock myself out without my light so we rode out Lansdown way via my place to pick it up.

>From mine we did the Stokes Lane (steep off-road) climb up to Prospect Stile – trails were nice and grippy and amazingly we all cleared it (first time ever?)

I’ve gave everyone a couple of route options and the answer was ‘we’ll follow you’ so we did a mix of stuff we’ve not done for a while including the steep stream bed up to Northstoke as a climb..About half-way up that there were mutterings about “Remember we said we’d follow you…”!

At the top of the descent into Swineford we met a guy (Chris) coming up on a Gary Fisher full-sus 29er and stopped for a bit of a chat.

Led to a debate across the badly trampled (most unrideable) field to the stile at Swineford about the benefits of 29ers over 26ers. Aileen pointed out that most of the top X-terra riders are now on them.. of their own choice.. ?

Aileen wanted to be back for 9-ish. About half way round Kevin was convinced we’d be back at ‘about 9.45’ so I bet him it’d be 9:03..

We later met Chris again with a bust light bracket and helped him out which held us up a bit. He gave me a couple of tips about new routes that could be worth exploring, including the intriguingly named ‘Granny’s Steps’.

Super fast drop back down the climb we’d earlier come up back into North Stoke, Ben and Justin creating a dust cloud even. Beautiful fast trails. Cold not so bad as long as you wrap up well – no such thing as too cold just wrong clothing I think Justin said :-)

Final descent back down off Prospect Stile down the tarmac Dean Hill Lane.

Stopped at the bottom to split off: Time 09:06. So I was 3 minutes late (ok, the rest of them had to ride into town then!).

So, farewell Aileen for a while.. no pub stop to say farewell but she’s back in May for a week or so, and we promised another ‘send off’ then. In the meantime she promised to send us pics of the Yeti being ridden around The Cape in 30 degree heat just to rub it in :-)

O/O
Andy
